The Sunday Salon 7.4.10: I’m going on a blog-cation!
2010 at 7am Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
Happy Sunday, readers! And if you’re in the U.S., then happy Fourth of July! I’m kicking off the holiday by joining two of my sisters-in-law for a calorie-laden brunch (that will, I hope, catapult me right into the “napping” portion of the day) and a whole lot of fun-but-overstimulating quality time with six (count ‘em!) nieces and nephews. I’m also hoping to get some serious laziness and some reading time in, as I’ve just started Belle Boggs’s Mattaponi Queen and am loving it. She’ll be at Fountain Bookstore this Tuesday, and I can’t wait.
If you’ve been in and out this week (or just out, as tends to happen this time of year with vacations and whatnot), here’s a recap of this week on ye olde blog. Monday brought an Adventures in Bookselling guest post about customers who are embarrassed to ask for certain books, then I spent Tuesday talking about “page-a-vu,” which is my new term for the books that are connected to memories of specific life moments. I reviewed two wonderful (and very different) books this week: Salvation on Sand Mountain by Dennis Covington and Taroko Gorge by Jacob Ritari. I also recapped my June reading and did a bit of a mid-year reading evaluation.
And now for the fun stuff! In an effort to get some much-needed reading (and writing!) time, I’m taking a mini-vacation from the blog this week. I don’t want you to get lonely, so I’ve lined up four fabulous authors who will be sharing guest posts about all sorts of things (one explains what penises have to do with creating characters, and another involves drinking, so it’s gonna be a fun week). I’ll still be around on Twitter, and I’m planning to pop in for a recap of the Belle Boggs event, but the general goal—in addition to sharing this space with authors I want you to know—is to take time away from actively blogging in order to get a few more books under my belt and some reviews written in advance for once. We’ll see how it goes.
Now I’m off for some reading time while it’s not yet hot as balls outside—I’ve become convinced this week that I could make a killing selling thermometers with a “hot as balls” marking for anything above 90, which we’ve been seeing all too often here in Richmond—and then to brunch. Hope you have a lovely Sunday!

Yes, hot as balls. That just happens to be one of my favorite sayings, used often here in the Florida summer. Can I also say humid as balls? Ugh. The pool isn’t even cooling me off these days. Have a productive blog-cation too. It seems everyone must be taking them because it has been very quiet out there. Look forward to the drinking and penis discussions this week!

Enjoy your blog-cation. You’ll be missed, but glad to know you’re taking care of us while you’re gone.
“Hot as balls”? Hmmmm, never heard that previously, but sounds about right. You’re sooo…mmm….what’s the word…randy.

Have a fantastic blog-cation! I hope you read a good number of awesome books. Having reviews scheduled is a nice feeling that I haven’t had in a while, either, so I hope you get them done. =)
