*trumpets* Announcing Social MediU!

The subtitle of this post should be “Because more came out of the National Book Festival than just #pantyworthy and #iheartthespark.”

You see, I’ve loved Michelle of Galleysmith since she burst onto the blogging scene last year. We have different taste in books but similar opinions on just about everything else. She’s one of my favorite partners in crime on Twitter, and since she lives just up the road in D.C., we get to hang out a lot. And it’s pretty awesome. The Book Fest was the first time we’d met in person, and as Michelle said in her announcement post, “it was kinda sorta mortifyingly epic.”

Meetings of the minds are like that.

And that? Well, it’s incredible.

Michelle and I have been plotting away since the Book Fest to find a way to put our combined awesomeness (don’t be surprised, you know humility ain’t my strong suit) and our passion for social media into something productive. Something helpful. Something for which there is a need.

When we realized how many times our conversations with authors, both in person and online, turned to the topic of social media and the fact that most authors realize they need to be using it to promote themselves and their books, but they don’t know HOW, the proverbial lightbulb appeared above our heads (at the same time, because that’s how we roll…the rate at which we’ve been finishing each other’s sentences lately is a little frightening) and we got it.

Earlier this week, we rolled out Social MediU, our new joint venture designed to provide authors and other creative professionals with education, training, and marketing solutions that equip them to promote themselves effectively and efficiently. Social MediU is about empowerment. It’s about teaching a man to fish, so to speak.

Because anyone can use the internet if they just know how. Social MediU is about demystifying the “how.”

Check out the Social MediU homepage (which is still under construction while we look for the right designer—-if you think you might be it, or you know who could be, give us a shout), and let us know what you think. If you’re an author, agent, or publisher interested in talking about our services (or a blogger who wants to make referrals, we do lurve referrals), holler back at deets@socialmediu.com.

Follow us on Twitter @socialmediu

We can’t wait to work with you!
