The Sunday Salon 3.21.10: Spring Fever Edition
2010 at 1pm Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
Spring has officially sprung here in Richmond, and as much as I love winter and snow, I have to say that I’m glad to see it. I spent most of the day yesterday lolling about on a picnic blanket in the back yard with my well-loved copy of The Sparrow, then Bob and I rounded out the day with Mexican food and margaritas. And let me tell you, those margaritas were necessary for dealing with the Jayhawks’ loss.
Yeah, yeah. I know you didn’t come here to read about basketball, and really, I don’t have much to say about it. But I grew up in Kansas and went to grad school at KU, and I (like so many of us) had picked the Jayhawks to win it all. My bracket is still whimpering in the corner, and my Facebook stream is filled to brimming with KU-related sadness. It’s not a pretty sight.
But thanks to the sunshine and perfect weather, I’m almost to the point of not caring. Almost.
The biggest decision I’ll be making today is what color to paint my toenails.
So I’ll forgo the usual week-end wrap-up and trust that you’re capable of scrolling through the last several posts if you’ve missed anything. I’m off for more sun-drunk relaxation.
Today, I’m taking my cues from Millie.

How are you spending this Sunday?
No related posts.

Aww, what a sweet face, and her markings are lovely. I think I’ll take today’s cue from Millie too and allow myself to relax.
Happy Sunday!
Yep, make that a me, three. Last day of spring break.
Reading about life in Paris. Ooo la la!
Being from Nebraska, I so rarely get to cheer for “my” team in the NCAA. Not this year–this year I’m going to be focusing much of my basketball passion on the ladies. No one can beat UConn, but I’d love if the Huskers could at least be playing them for the championship.
Alas, at our home, we my have a VIP dinner guest, which means that my DH has decreed a major housecleaning drive. In his mind, this means we have to make the house look like nobody really lives here! I’m currently squirreled away in my office wile he rants about some obscure thing in the back of one of the closets. He’s trying to think if he has a good excuse to go to Home Depot or Pier 1 and I’m encouraging him. I just want him to go way so I can read Hamlet in peace!
As an MU grad, I just have to say, so sorry for the Jayhawks’ loss – not! *hee hee*
Please send some of that spring to your friends in the Midwest – it’s raining and in the 40s in St. Louis.
Ugh. Working. That’s how I’m spending my weekend. I try to get in 10-12 hours of work on Sundays. *sobs*
I finished THE SPARROW this morning and need to goof off for the rest of the day – it’s left me unready to start another book right away. SO glad to have read it again!
We’re off to a family birthday dinner for my dad in a couple of hours, but this has been a pleasantly unscheduled Sunday.
It was wet and dreary here today, so hasn’t felt like spring at all. I love the picture of cute little Millie!
My weekend has been sort of meh. Nothing to complain of but nothing to boast about either. It’s been hot but hazy which makes me crabby and although I read one book this weekend, it wasn’t the book that I was supposed to read so I feel as if the weekend sort of came and went. But I will make up for it tonight with a huge pizza pie.
We made a family trip to Chipotle and the library, and we’ve spent the rest of the day playing with the baby and watching season 3 of Big Love (and making some baby food).
I don’t mean to be cruel but I live in Waterloo, IA and we are relishing our UNI Panther win against the Jayhawks. It was an exciting game. Today I’ve watched “The Time Traveler’s Wife” movie (one of my all time favorite books). I think you had to have read the book to understand the movie.
Hey Rebecca – Back in Topeka, we’re feeling the same NCAA pain. I never really followed basketball until I met my husband, and his whole family are diehard Jayhawk fans. I get caught up in it sometimes, but it’s easier for me to “disengage” from it, since I’ve always got a book to engage me instead.
The weather is better here today, sunny and 40s, but Friday night and Saturday we got about five inches of snow. I’m envious of your reading outside on a picnic blanket! That will be me too, if we can ever get spring to come and actually stay around.
Ah, pizza covers a multitude of problems, doesn’t it?
Throw salt on the wounds, why don’tcha!
Love the picture of your dog! Yea, sorry about Kansas. I run the NCAA pool at my school and all 25 participants had them going at least to the Sweet 16. There were so many upsets this year! My UW Badgers broke my heart yesterday when they got killed by Cornell. There’s always next year!
Millie’s adorable. GO K-STATE!!
Iowa representing at the NCAA’s! I went to the UI, not UNI, but since the UI’s mens b-ball team is perennially suck-tastic you cheer on what you can.
Gotta say though, I was pretty astonished when someone called in with a game update, giving UNI the lead. I was pretty sure KU had that one in the bag.
The kitty-boys are envying Millie – the realor was over Sunday so the house was turned upside down with cleaning, decluttering, and vacuuming. It’s very stressful for them
Tell the kitty-boys that Millie feels their pain—I did major cleaning last week and she is NOT a fan of the vacuum.
