Read THE SPARROW with Florinda, Heather J, and Me….and enter to win a free copy!

Any time someone asks about my all-time favorite books, I end up gushing about Mary Doria Russell’s The Sparrow. Of the handful of books I’ve reread, The Sparrow tops the list, and at this point, I’m not sure if I’ve read it three or four times. The futuristic story takes me outside of my usual reading habits and serves as a vehicle for exploring the nature of faith and belief and asking BIG QUESTIONS in a beautifully written novel. During my bookseller days, I was always on the lookout for an opportunity to recommend this book, and I’ve always thought it was both misclassified (you’ll likely find it on the science fiction shelves of your local bookstore) and underappreciated.
In an attempt to remedy the latter, I’m thrilled to be joining with Florinda of The 3 Rs Blog and Heather J. of Age 30+…A Lifetime of Books to host this read along of The Sparrow.
Head over to the official The Sparrow read along sign-up post to learn more about The Sparrow and get ready to join us for an unforgettable book. Discussion begins one month from today on March 16th and concludes March 30th.
What are you waiting for? Go sign up!
But wait! There’s more!
To encourage you to join us, I’m giving away a copy of The Sparrow to one lucky participant. After you sign up at Florinda’s blog, come back and leave a comment here to be entered. Entries will be open until next Tuesday, February 23rd at 11:59pm EST. The winner will be chosen randomly.

I just signed up! It’s right during my spring break, and it’s a book I’ve been wanting to read for awhile. Maybe I’ll even try to talk Kevin into reading it….
Don’t enter me, I’ve got this one coming to me from BookMooch. I’ve got to wait until the girl is done reading it, though, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I will get it in time for your readalong. If I do, I’ll definitely participate.
Can’t wait!! I definitely would love to read it, because it sounds like something that I’d appreciate with those BIG QUESTIONS.. I absolutely, absolutely adore books that make me THINK. So please, please sign me up for the free giveaway!
If not, I’ll just need to buy it on Alibris
I feel as if this entire post is directed at me…Karen is rejoicing.
I’ve heard good reviews about this book and I’d love to read it!
I love this book and will be participating in the discussion, but I don’t own a copy. Would love to win one!
I don’t read a lot of sci-fi,but this was recommended to me by someone whose taste I trust, and I was enthralled.Cried buckets, and thought very deeply about the premise of colonisation, and how the early Jesuits fared.I now recommend this book to anyone who I think will appreciate it.
I don’t really read sci-fi, either, and I have a hard time thinking of this book as sci-fi b/c it’s really about so much more than a futuristic story. Hope you’ll consider a re-read with us! (it also makes me cry buckets)
Amazing, I loved The Sparrow and its sequal. I’m more than excited to discuss it with people, as I know no one else who has read it.
I watch sci-fi but have never read sci-fi which I would like to do as this books sounds interesting.
