The Sunday Salon 12.13.09
2009 at 1pm Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
This was one of those weeks where I thought Sunday would never come. I had special events for work every day and hardly spent any time in the office, so there’s a mountain of email and administrative tasks awaiting me tomorrow.
But today I’m doing exactly what you think I’m doing. I’m camped out on the couch in my PJs, snuggled up with Bob and Millie, studiously avoiding any reminder of the real world. And that’s just the way I like it.
I should spend this precious quiet time writing reviews of the great books I read this week: Bright-Sided by Barbara Ehrenreich, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, and The Guinea Pig Diaries by A.J. Jacobs, but even though I have extensive notes and a lot to say about all three, I can’t seem to muster the mojo. It’s a cold, rainy, winterific day here in Richmond (finally!), and I want to spend it reading. Not to mention the fact that hubby and I endured the world’s longest office holiday party last night and desperately need to decompress. (I mean, really, whoever thought their coworkers actually wanted to be herded onto a bus and driven around on a tacky lights tour—in which the ratio of time spent driving to time spent looking at lights was horribly off kilter—is just straight up crazy. For reals: we spent three and a half hours on the bus and only made six official stops. IT WAS RI-FREAKING-DICULOUS.
So I think I’ll curl up with The Likeness and check out for a while.
In the meantime, I hope you’ll enjoy this little piece of holiday sacriliciousness, compliments of South Park. (If you’re reading this in a feed reader, you may need to click through to my site in order to view the video.)

You’ve got the right idea about how to spend a Sunday! I’m staying in to read and watch movies.
My Salon is here:

Enjoy your Sunday decompressing. Frankly, when I was working, I did not care to spend anymore time with coworkers than was necessary….LOL
Office parties are THE WORST.
Has it been raining all day in VA as it has in southern PA? It’s a great day to stay inside curled up with a book .. enjoy!
Yep, it’s been raining all day. And oh, how I wish it were snow!
I hear you…I think I’d rather have a root canal than go through this week again. I’ve been blogging like nuts, but have been ignoring my reading. Maybe if I could sit down for five minutes without being molested by a husband or a kid or the phone, I could read more than five pages! The Likeness is a perfect curl-up read. Loved that book!
I couldn’t have ridden on a bus for that long without a bathroom break. I”m glad I wasn’t at that party!
It was a charter bus, so it had a bathroom, and I definitely made use of it. Pulling up pantyhose while standing in a moving vehicle is hard!
I’m going to write my review of “The Guinea Pig Diaries” soon .. I’m a huge A.J. Jacobs fan but I thought this one was a little on the short side … I wish he had done more with it!
And that bus ride sounds like a horror!
OMG I am laughing. For whatever reason, when I first opened the page the video did not come up. I went off into the kitchen to do some things and totally forgot about it. After about 15 min I hear this horrendous singing and I am thinking it’s my neighbors. Nope..not my neighbors but your South Park vid. Bwahahaha.
Just a little Christmas cheer from me to you, Ti.
You mean flashing lights, smelly busses, and obnoxious co-workers aren’t your idea of fun? You Grinch you!
Glad you (hopefully) enjoyed a much deserved relaxing day with the family. The weather here was equally atrocious so it was the perfect day to avoid the great outdoors if you could.
Oh, and Cartman is by far the best South Park character
