Let the wild rumpus…err…read-a-thon start!
2009 at 8am Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
I’m prescheduling this post so I can get the read-a-thon off to a running start, so by the time you read this, I will have stumbled out of bed, walked the dog, made a coffee run, and snuggled myself into my favorite spot on the couch (you know, the one I occupy during all of those Sunday Salon posts) with a triple-venti pumpkin spice latte.
This is my first read-a-thon, and I’m not messing around.
This week, I’ve been engrossed in John Irving’s forthcoming novel Last Night in Twisted River, which I’d been hoping to finish before this big event. But alas, that didn’t happen. And because I’d rather wake up with Mr. Irving than Nicholas Sparks (hello, is there really any question about that?), I’m going to spend the morning trying to make more of a dent in it before I fulfill my commitment to read The Last Song for Trish’s horrible dare.
Also, Nicholas Sparks came after John Irving at the National Book Festival, and that made him all the worse, so I’m going for symmetry here, people…and I figure if I’ve had a morning full of good reading, my Sparks-inspired snark will be sharper. So tune in around noon Eastern time (or 4 hours into the read-a-thon) for the beginning of what has become known as #IHeartTheSpark. I’ll be tweeting about my experience and blogging the highlights. You know you’re looking forward to laughing at me.
Aside from #IHeartTheSpark, though, I’m going to try to stay away from the computer and just check in every several hours. I want to enjoy this opportunity, crazy as it may be, to read a ton, and I’m going to stay pretty close to my usual reading preferences. If I’m going to dedicate an entire 24-hour period to reading, why would I want to fill it with fluff? We all know I’m a bit snootier than that.
(Though I do understand the rationale behind keeping read-a-thon selections light and fluffy and don’t judge the participants who choose to go that way. It’s just not my cup of tea.)
So I’m spending the morning with John Irving, then fulfilling a horrible dare, and then?
Well, then I’m flying by the seat of my pants and picking whatever looks good from that giant TBR pile that’s been giving me the stinkeye lately.
Happy read-a-thonning!

Good luck with the N Sparks!
Happy reading!
Happy Reading, your two hours in yay!
Looking forward to your views on Mr Sparks, maybe you’ll love it
Awwww, come on! Get on with your fluffy self will ya?
LOL
Only kidding, besides your foray into sparkle-dom will certainly count towards your fluff factor.
have fun!!
..and curious what you make of Sparks.
Traditional read-a-thon blessing:
May the bookshelf be there to greet you.
May all the books appeal.
May the fridge be full of tasty snacks;
the words fall soft upon your eyes and until the read-a-thon ends,
may you always hold a book in the palm of your hand.
Good luck today!
Too funny that we both started our RAT with the same idea for the title of our first posts!! Good luck with the DARE book!
