The Sunday Salon 10.11.09

tssbadge1 I know what you’re expecting. It’s Sunday, so you figure my post is going to be all about how I’m spending the day on the couch in my jammies, just hanging out with my hubby and the pooch, watching as many of last week’s DVRed shows as possible and reading.

BUT TODAY YOU’RE WRONG!

Brace yourselves, people. I am actually going to 1) put on real pants and 2) leave my house on a Sunday.

It’s crazy. I know.

A good friend of ours has a farm just north of Richmond and a collection of six Australian shepherds and six border collies. He and his wife are very involved in dog agility and herding competitions, and they’re having an exhibition today. So why are we, the proud owners of a virtually untrainable basset hound going to something like that? Well, there’s going to be food and cute puppies.

And that’s more than enough for me.

It also helps that today is the most perfect kind of fall day, with a crisp, cool morning opening up into a warm afternoon, and it’s just a great day to be outside. Even if it means I have to wear real pants.

It’s been a big week for me. As some of you know from Twitter, I’ve accepted a new job and will no longer be a full-time Book Lady as of October 19th. I’m transitioning into a new medical company that’s coming into the area and will be their marketing coordinator. It’s a great opportunity that I’m really excited about, but I’m going to miss a lot about the bookstore….so I’ll probably stay on as a very, very part-time bookseller, just filling in occasionally when someone calls in sick or helping out with special events. It can be a lot of fun, and really, I don’t want to say goodbye to that bookstore discount. It is a beautiful thing.

This week, I also officially accepted a horrible dare from Trish and told you all about how I’m looking forward to celebrating one of my favorite annual traditions with hubby. Speaking of hubby, I’ve sent him your questions, so you can expect the first Bob Speaks guest post later this week.

I had three special events at work this week and didn’t have much reading time, but I did review Manhood for Amateurs by Michael Chabon (loved it!). I have a few fun things on tap for later this week as well. It must be one of life’s great ironies that the season that makes me feel most like reading also has the busiest weekends.

For now, I’m off to the farm to watch my nieces and nephew squeal over puppies and watch in amazement while dogs herd sheep. If I’m lucky, I’ll be back in my PJs by mid-afternoon.

What are you up to this Sunday?
