A wonderful collection of essays. Like a good comedian, Chabon takes everyday events and turns them into a magic. I was given the audio book and delight in his narrative and voice, perhaps taking me back to the audio version of "Summerland". The only place the this book fall short is in his digs at both presidents Bush. Don't get me wrong, they deserve negative press they get. But Chabon by only mentioning them with only spiked digs is dating this collection of otherwise timeless observances. Yes, politics and political figures can and should be discussed. But to call them ass holes and move on without further detail only shows us that he is pissed off and needs a place to vent. Will readers in 20 years give a crap about how he felt about George W? I doubt it, but his description of his daughter's journey to womanhood is both universal and for all ages. Leave the politics for the rallies.

I am about halfway through this book and am LOVING it. It's my first Chabon book, but I can tell you it won't be my last. I'm thinking of hiding it and pulling it out for my husband if/when we decide to have kids.
