Ask Bob: On living with the Book Lady
2009 at 9am Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
During the blogger meet-up after the National Book Festival last Saturday, we got to talking about what our spouses and significant others think about living with someone who is obsessed with books and has a constant stream of them coming into the home. Trish mentioned that despite having a small-ish house, her husband has never once complained about the books that pile up everywhere, and that kicked off a conversation that eventually led to me suggesting that we should ask our partners to write guest posts about what it’s like to live with a book blogger.
A lot of this blogging/tweeting/ning-ing stuff seems pretty crazy to my husband Bob, and I’m certain he has many thoughts to share. After discussing it earlier this week, we decided it might be more fun to allow you, my readers, to ask him whatever it is that you’ve just been dying to know about the Book Lady and what it’s like to live with her.
So here’s your chance.
This is Bob. Ask him anything.

Leave your questions in the comments, and Bob will answer them in a guest post next week.

Bob:
Company A announces that it will be borrowing $ 50 million and buying back stock at $10.75 a share. This will lower the rating to BB, with a pre-tax cost of debt of 7%.
Assuming that all of the existing debt gets refinanced at this new rate, estimate the value per share after this transaction. (You can assume a growth rate of 3% in perpetuity.)

So with all those books around, do you guys have a good fire suppression system?
What do you like to read, Bob?
Bob:
The drift velocity of electrons in a given gaseous mixture is v=5cm/us. Which consequences does this value cause in a multi-wire chamber with pitch s=2mm ? And in a drift chamber with TDC having a clock cycle of 500 MHz ?
Cheers!
On a more serious note, which book recommendation(s) of Rebecca’s were you initially most resistant to but ended up enjoying? (Any literary equivalents of my wife reluctantly tagging along to see Kill Bill Vol. 1 but ending up considering it one of her all-time favorite movies?)
From the two posts above me, I guess the ‘ask me anything’ instructions may have been a tad too broad
I wanna know if Bob reads your blog regularly or at all. My Hub does not even know what my blog is called although I talk about it all the time.
I also wanna know if you two ever read to each other.
Bob, please share Rebecca’s biggest book geek moment with us!
Damn, Booklady, your husband is hot!
Can you actually read?
Does Rebecca use you as a sounding board for reviews?
Do you ever want to push her pile of books on the floor? (my husband threatens this to me all the time, jokingly though)

Do you ever tire of her talking about her blog and the friends she’s made because of it?
Whose idea was it to get married in a library?
Do you have nightmares that books will overtake your house?
I’m not asking Bob anything, because I have baggage over the fact that my husband refuses to have anything to do with my blog. He humors me. He brings me a glass of OJ at 5:30 in the morning when I’ve been on the computer for a minimum of 30 to 45 minutes. Beyond that, he doesn’t want to know. He is annoyed that the house and yard doesn’t get the attention it needs, and that it seems I have “office chair butt”. But damn, Booklady, your guy is pretty darned cute! Bob, if you would like to comment that is fine.
Can you buy Rebecca a book on your own, without needing a wishlist to guide you? In other words, do you feel confident in your book buying skills? Or do you resort to gift cards?
What a great idea!
Bob: In an ideal world, how many books would you like Rebecca to own?
Oh Rebecca! You were right! He is quite the cutie patootie!!
Ok, back to my question:
What book would you use to describe yourself and which one would describe Rebecca the most accurately?
Is there an author you would throw your boxers at, just as Rebecca would throw her panties at John Irving?
Oh no you didn’t!
Does Rebecca discuss html or css with you? Does it get on your nerves?
Bob is Rebecca more fond of peaches or plumbs?
Or perhaps bidets?
I second the question by softdrink.
Also – do you get it?!
Huh? If there’s a joke there, I don’t get it. Please explain
Are you jealous of the books? taking over the house, taking up time and attention?or just humorously tolerate them.
LMAO! That’s right, LOL
Bob, do you tell Rebecca “you spend (x amount of money) on books every month!!”, based on amazon.com charges, plus debit card charges to various bookstores around town?? Every month??
Makes me constantly think I need to deal in “cash only” when I buy books
.
Bob, do you ever argue with the lady that the film was better than the book? Does that sort of shit make you smile?
[...] it would be fun to ask my husband Bob to take readers’ questions, so a couple weeks ago, I invited you to ask away, and you did not disappoint. Here are your questions and Bob’s answers….with a few of [...]
