BBAW Day 1: My personal shortlist
2009 at 9am Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky

On this first day of the 2nd annual Book Blogger Appreciation Week, we are meant to celebrate and acknowledge some of our favorite blogs that didn’t make the BBAW awards shortlists. Lucky for me (and my Google Reader with more than 300 subscriptions), I have a lot to choose from! Straight from my “favorites” folder, here is my personal shortlist:
At Home With Books: Alyce reviews a wide variety of books and always manages to include a fun personal twist. I love hearing about her adventures in reading, and I’m a big fan of her new-ish series My Favorite Reads, where she writes about books she read in her pre-blogging days.
Book Chatter and Other Stuff: Whether she’s reviewing books or talking about her family or sharing a recent bookish experience, Ti never disappoints. She is kind and funny and a great bloggy friend. I’m always excited to see an update from her pop up in my Google Reader.
Both Eyes Book Blog: I feel like I read a lot until I visit blogs like Jessica’s and see that she’s read more than 300 books already this year! (She and Swapna from S. Krishna’s Books have a friendly competition going, and I can’t wait to see who will win.) I love reading Jessica’s short, often humorous take on the books she’s read recently, and when she decides to write a long, detailed review, you know they’re always going to be good. I’m also a fan of her Daisy Chain series (and not jut because I named it!) where she discussed recurring themes in her recent reading.
Devourer of Books: Jen writes concise, pithy reviews and isn’t afraid to say so when a book isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Hers is one of the first book blogs I discovered, and it provided great inspiration. I also had a lot of fun partnering with her on Banned Books Week reviews and activities last year, and now that she has an adorable baby boy to post pictures of, you just can’t beat her!
The Literate Housewife: Jennifer was my inspiration to start blogging, and her reviews and bookish conversation keep me motivated. From the very beginning, Jennifer has supported my blogging efforts and been a great resource, and I always learn something new when I visit her blog. To add to her awesomeness, she included me on her personal shortlist and sent me this awesome button that totally made my day!

Thanks, Jennifer!
UPDATE: I forgot to mention a few others that I just can’t leave out. I also really *heart* Lisa at Books on the Brain and Florinda at The 3 R’s.
I’m happy to say that many of my favorites were shortlisted, and of course, there are many more that I don’t have space to recognize here. If you don’t have a blog but want to give shout-outs to some other bloggers you love, feel free to pimp them in the comments below.
Happy first day of BBAW!
No related posts.

I’ve heard of the last two. There are so many bloggers. Here is mine
You are getting some serious love around here this morning! As a result, you are now on my reader! You have some awesome bloggers listed here…some that would be on my short lists as well. This whole exercise has been like Christmas in September. My kids will be lucky if they get dinner tonight, I’ll be so attached to my computer!
Your comparison to Christmas is right on, Sandy! I’ve been so flattered by the BBAW love this morning. I’m in great company, and it has made my day. Thanks for dropping by!
I read and love all the blogs you mentioned! Great choices!
I also spotlighted The Literate Housewife and Devourer of Books. The other blogs you mentioned are great too!
What an excellent list! I do wish I had more time to read the adult book blogs…usually I’m browsing around the children’s book world.
I am smiling from ear to ear right now. Thank you for including me in your list. It means a lot to me! I enjoy your reviews but I also enjoy all of the other stuff… like your affinity for the Steak and Shake
Makes you a real, tangible person in my book.
I also have some bloggy love for you on my blog.
I’m glad to know that someone appreciates my affinity for the Steak & Shake. Maybe we’ll get to go together sometime.
All this bloggy love is sure making my first day back a little easier!
I owe you an apology! I screwed up and left you off my personal-shortlist post originally because I could have sworn you were short-listed for BBAW. I have now corrected my mistake and re-posted the list with your blog included, where it belongs
.
And thank you so much for including my blog on YOUR list!
I think that makes us even, Florinda! Your latest post hadn’t shown up in my reader yet when I was perusing my favorites folder, which is how you got left out of mine. Glad the love is mutual
I haven’t read any of these and you make them all sound so worth a visit. I think I may have to put a cap on blogs I can add to my google reader this week
I found it so hard to write up my post – hopefully everyone will be remembered somewhere. (I’m seeing you all over the place today!) Great list.
I think the great thing about the blogging community is that there really is something for everybody. I’m not going to be everyone’s favorite, and that’s OK. Just being one person’s favorite is great, and I hope every blogger gets to experience that as well.
Several blogs listed you among their favorites so I came by to visit. After looking around your blog, seeing the books you reviewed and reading some of your blog posts t I understand and will be back to visit again!
You listed some great blogs and I am off to visit the ones I’m not familiar with knowing I’m in for some great treats!
It’s nice to “meet” and thank you!
~ Amy
I can’t tell you how excited I am that I made your list! Thank you so much for your kind words about my blog. I was reading through the comments, and it’s funny but I thought you were short listed too. I guess that’s probably just because I thought you deserved to be short listed.
Awww, thanks Alyce!
What a list. A few I haven’t heard of so will have to check them out. Thanks.
Thank you so very much, Rebecca. That I have anything to do with you starting your blog is a great honor. Yours is one of the best and so are the others you list here today. I count myself as lucky to be part of this community.
I am looking forward to the upcoming year and what it will bring – hopefully more hilarious tales from your bookstore and funny search terms – but also in-depth and thoughtful reviews. Your blog has it all.
Although I just added you to my blog reader tonight, I already can’t remember how I got here. This BBAW is a bit overwhelming! I love your choices … we have some of our favorite bloggers in common!
I would have loved to see your blog on a shortlist – you’re just great! All the love today has been very well deserved!
Happy BBAW. Loved this post. Thanks for introducing me to some new blogs – as if I’m not following enough already! But I guess that’s what this week is for – discovering new blogs and making new friends!
I enjoy all of these blogs – great choices! (and thanks for the shout-out!)
