On this first day of the 2nd annual Book Blogger Appreciation Week, we are meant to celebrate and acknowledge some of our favorite blogs that didn’t make the BBAW awards shortlists. Lucky for me (and my Google Reader with more than 300 subscriptions), I have a lot to choose from!  Straight from my “favorites” folder, here is my personal shortlist:

At Home With Books: Alyce reviews a wide variety of books and always manages to include a fun personal twist. I love hearing about her adventures in reading, and I’m a big fan of her new-ish series My Favorite Reads, where she writes about books she read in her pre-blogging days.

Book Chatter and Other Stuff: Whether she’s reviewing books or talking about her family or sharing a recent bookish experience, Ti never disappoints. She is kind and funny and a great bloggy friend. I’m always excited to see an update from her pop up in my Google Reader.

Both Eyes Book Blog: I feel like I read a lot until I visit blogs like Jessica’s and see that she’s read more than 300 books already this year! (She and Swapna from S. Krishna’s Books have a friendly competition going, and I can’t wait to see who will win.) I love reading Jessica’s short, often humorous take on the books she’s read recently, and when she decides to write a long, detailed review, you know they’re always going to be good. I’m also a fan of her Daisy Chain series (and not jut because I named it!) where she discussed recurring themes in her recent reading.

Devourer of Books: Jen writes concise, pithy reviews and isn’t afraid to say so when a book isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Hers is one of the first book blogs I discovered, and it provided great inspiration. I also had a lot of fun partnering with her on Banned Books Week reviews and activities last year, and now that she has an adorable baby boy to post pictures of, you just can’t beat her!

The Literate Housewife: Jennifer was my inspiration to start blogging, and her reviews and bookish conversation keep me motivated. From the very beginning, Jennifer has supported my blogging efforts and been a great resource, and I always learn something new when I visit her blog. To add to her awesomeness, she included me on her personal shortlist and sent me this awesome button that totally made my day!

Thanks, Jennifer!

UPDATE: I forgot to mention a few others that I just can’t leave out. I also really *heart* Lisa at Books on the Brain and Florinda at The 3 R’s.

I’m happy to say that many of my favorites were shortlisted, and of course, there are many more that I don’t have space to recognize here. If you don’t have a blog but want to give shout-outs to some other bloggers you love, feel free to pimp them in the comments below.

Happy first day of BBAW!
