I'm a big Margaret Atwood fan as well -- can't wait for The Year of the Flood. Have you heard that she has started a blog (and even a Twitter feed!) to promote her new book? It's really fun to read her first forays into the blogosphere! Check it out here: http://marg09.wordpress.com/

I was introduced to Atwood when I took a lit course focused entirely on her in college. It was one of my favorite classes from my college experience.

I'll have to re-read Oryx and Crake now to get ready for The Year of the Flood--and thank you for mentioning it, since I wouldn't have otherwise known about it!

I'd also recommend, if you love Atwood, to read The Blind Assassin and Alias Grace--my two other favorite books of hers.

Like other folks, I must confess that I've never read Atwood! And I'm not (entirely) embarrassed to say it's because she intimidates me. :( Just the name -- ATWOOD -- seems to scream intimidation! I'm not sure where these feelings of literary inadequacy are stemming from but they are OH! so very strong. haha!

Still, I'm definitely on a dystopia kick right now -- just finished The Hunger Games (and gearing up for Catching Fire!) and currently reading How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff! Perhaps I shouuld add this one to the pile? If I can put aside all my anxiety :)

This is a different kind of dystopia than in some of her other novels. I really liked this one, but I think Handmaid's Tale is the best place to start.

I've never read an Atwood novel. Is this is her Dystopian at its best, I suppose I should start with this one? Thanks for the review.

No. I totally think it's creepy. And I definitely like some of the other covers better, but this is the edition I read, and I have a weird thing about always using those.

I really didn't like the last Atwood book I read, but this one sounds so good, I'm going to give her another try.
