BTT: Je préfère
2009 at 9am Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
This week it’s all about preferences.
Which do you prefer? (Quick answers–we’ll do more detail at some later date)
- Reading something frivolous? Or something serious? Serious. Almost always something serious.
- Paperbacks? Or hardcovers? Whatever the book I want is available in.
- Fiction? Or Nonfiction? Both.
- Poetry? Or Prose? Prose.
- Biographies? Or Autobiographies? Usually autobiographies/memoirs. I like it straight from the horse’s mouth.
- History? Or Historical Fiction? History.
- Series? Or Stand-alones? Stand-alones.
- Classics? Or best-sellers? Why do I have to choose?
- Lurid, fruity prose? Or straight-forward, basic prose? That depends. I like both.
- Plots? Or Stream-of-Consciousness? Are these really opposites?
- Long books? Or Short? Doesn’t matter as long as the book is the right length for what the author is doing or saying.
- Illustrated? Or Non-illustrated? Non-illustrated. Nothing against pictures, just that most grown-up books don’t have ‘em.
- Borrowed? Or Owned? Owned. How else can I get away with writing in them?
- New? Or Used? New.
What about you?

I read poetry too. I gotta read it as I write it!
Booking through preferences
I had a hard time keeping mine short this week; but I must say that I’m like with you on some of these…completely and utterly depends upon my mood and I can read almost anything.
Yes, I like to write in my books, too. This was a hard one for me. I could have answered “both” to just about every question!
Great answers! The name of my blog is “Well-Mannered Frivolity” – can you guess what my answer to number 1 was? It was hard to choose between some of the answers this week though…
I find it difficult to capture my reading behavior in multiple choices!
I prefer a plot-driven novel that slowly unfolds in fruity and lush prose, with multiple layers and allusion that indulge my mind long after I turn the last page like the lingering aftertaste of a good glass of wine.
It really is hard to keep these short. I want to elaborate on each of them!
I can’t choose A or B….I have to write in a C, All of the Above.
I think we’re pretty close to direct opposites, haha. I posted my responses on my blog as well. Where we’re most similar is in our love of ownership. I’m far too selfish to have to give back a book I love. Now a book I don’t like….I’m happy to donate it or pay it forward. No need for it to collect dust on my shelves when someone else might enjoy it.
