The Sunday Salon 7.12.09
2009 at 4pm Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
After a busy week of traveling (and a 13-hour car ride yesterday), this Sunday finds me back in my usual spot on the couch. The second half of our trip (scroll down for a recap of the first half) was great. Hubby and I spent three days in Kansas City visiting my parents and watching our basset hound—who was a very well-behaved travel companion—play with theirs. We hit some of my favorite restaurants, had ice cream for lunch one day, and did a whole lot of nothing.
It was pretty fantastic.
As much as I always hate to see vacation come to an end, I love pulling up in the driveway and seeing that the house is still in one piece, even if it does smell like my grandma’s house after being shut up for a week and a half. And sleeping in my own bed after several days away? There’s nothing like it.
This Sunday has been busier than usual, as I’ve had errands to run and groceries to buy, but I’m planning to spend the rest of the day relaxing. I did the dreaded “mark all as read” in GoogleReader Friday morning, so I’ll scroll through a few of the newer posts today and hope you’ll clue me in if I missed anything big this past week.
I did some good reading on my trip and plan to post reviews throughout the week. For now, I’m off to finish The Crying Tree by Nassem Rakha so I can begin my re-read of The Gargoyle for Thursday’s book club meeting.
What have you been up to this weekend? What did I miss?

I know what you mean. As great as vacation is, there’s no place like home!
I’m glad that you had a wonderful vacation. Mine is in two weeks. I’m looking forward to returning to Michigan for the first time in two years. I miss my home state, but I already know that nothing is going to feel as good as my own bed when we get back to reality.
I’m glad to hear that you had such a nice vacation!
Sounds like your vacation was wonderful!! So glad that you enjoyed it!!
I just came back from vacay as well and you are so right about coming home. I was glad that the gopher that made his appearance before we left, did not destroy our yard while we were gone. And yeah, the house did sort of smell kind of musty but we remedied that quickly.
Hmmmm…what did you miss. I can’t say that anything really outstanding is coming to mind, but I’m still trying to wade through my feed reader. I imagine if you scroll through Twitter a little you’ll latch on to a nugget here and there.
Nothing like getting home to your own bed. It’s just sublime!
Welcome home
I just returned from vacation too! I’m feeling very lazy, as well. I managed to read 3 books while I was gone (airport time, plus we were on a cruise and there were some lazy moments watching the ocean go by — and may I say we all loved the cruise so much we want to do another, longer one).
Currently reading the latest Nora Roberts, which is just as you would expect (romance spiced with some mystery), plus another fun read, “Shooting an Albatross, by Steven Lundin. I feel like I’m going back and forth in time! “Albatross” is set during WWII, in wartime Hollywood, and involves a professional golf season that was canceled. Based on a true story and everything, but it’s not just about golf, it’s also about love, the military and has its mystery moments as well. The author has a nice literary way of writing — quite enjoyable.
