Just finished reading a little while ago actually. We had to read it as a class assignment. I didn’t think I would like it first, but I really did. Neil White wrote it in a spectacular way. The way he described his friend Ella Bounds made me feel as if I was as close to her as he was. I also love his description of the south. I live not far from Oxford and I can tell you all he says is true. I recommend this for a good read.

I am re-reading the book after seeing Mr. White in person. It is even more enjoyable the second time around. I highly recommend its rare look at an unusual situation.

I loved how honest and upfront he was in this book about his mistakes. He definitely struck all the right chords.

When I first heard about this book, I was sure it wasn’t something I wanted to read. Now I am pretty sure this is one I will be adding to my reading list. The writing sounds beautiful and very honest. It’s exactly the type of memoir I enjoy most.

I’m picky about memoirs because usually they aren’t written well or they seem sappy to me but this one sounds really good. I just added it to my TBR list.

And to even think that they put prisoners with patients. Ack!
