The Sunday Salon 5.3.09 and April Reading Wrap-Up
2009 at 2pm Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
The second half of this week was really busy for me, so I haven’t had a chance to update in a couple days. The first half of this coming week will be equally busy, so I’m focusing on laziness today (it’s 2:35, and I’m still in my PJs) and spending time on the couch with hubby catching up on the shows we recorded last week and didn’t get a chance to watch yet. Good times.
The two main blogging highlights of the week were my review of First Comes Love, Then Comes Malaria (fantastic read!) and this discussion about deciding whether or not to have kids (which I realized should have been titled “To Breed or Not to Breed” about ten minutes after I posted it). All of the responses have been insightful and interesting, and many have provoked me to think about my perspective in a new way, and I’m just so thankful to have this platform to write about and explore my thoughts and receive such wonderful feedback and conversation from many of you.
Because work and life have been really busy, I didn’t get much reading time this week, and I just finished Life’s That Way earlier today. I’m still processing and will review it tomorrow or Tuesday.
Here’s a wrap-up of what I read in April—click the cover for my review:
Not as much, in terms of quantity, as I had hoped, but with Easter traveling and a crazy number of special events at work, it’s pretty good, especially considering the length of a few of them. And there’s not a dud in the group, so I really can’t complain. Can’t even pick a favorite, really. Each one was wonderful in its own way.
This month, my friend Kristen did her first guest review here of this book:
We’re planning to do some kind of joint review/discussion of The Blue Notebook in the next month or so.
For now, I’m heading back to the couch and the DVR and, I hope, to a short nap later on. Hubs and I don’t usually leave the house on Sundays, but we’re heading to our friend Leslie’s “America’s Funniest Home Videos”viewing party this evening. She submitted a clip that is going to air tonight, so tune in if you get a chance, and look for the unfortunate bowling incident. Unless, of course, they’re showing a montage of bowling incidents…huh.
Til tomorrow, have a fantastic Sunday, Saloners!

I cant wait to see what you have to say about A Long Way Gone. I listened to it on Audio and it was read by the author. OMG – I just wanted to cry during parts of it.
Cant wait.

I like the idea of a joint discussion….Fun idea!
Quality is more important than quantity. Have fun at the party tonight, that sounds like fun!
Naps RULE!

Ha! I am watching AFV now. Have yet to see the bowling bit. I will keep my eyes peeled for it.
