The Sunday Salon 3.22.09
2009 at 11am Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
This Sunday morning finds me reluctantly packing up to head back to Richmond. I’ve had a great long weekend visiting my parents here in Kansas City, and I’ll be sad to see the free time go, but I am looking forward to seeing Millie’s sweet (if droopy) face and snuggling up with hubby to catch up on all the shows that are waiting in the TiVo.
It’s going to be a busy week, as I have a good friend coming to stay with us Wednesday–Sunday while she attends a conference nearby, so I have to get the house in order, but it will be great to see her and have some quality time.
This week, I read and reviewed Captain Freedom and Safer. Both were really enjoyable, and in completely different ways. I discussed book-to-movie adaptations for Weekly Geeks and the worst “best” books I’ve ever read for BTT. And I did a little happy dance when I got an ARC of a book I’ve been dying to read.
And if you’re looking for some great ways to waste time and/or learn something new, check out these fabulous links from around the blogosphere.
For the coming week, I’ve planned reviews and discussions of 3 books for Women’s History Month. We’ll be talking about first periods with My Little Red Book, virginity and feminist issues with The Purity Myth, and young women’s dangerous drive for perfection with Supergirls Speak Out. I’ve already finished reading the first two, and I can’t wait to share them with you.
I started The Angel’s Game last night, and since I have a 1 hour flight followed by a 4 hour layover and another 2 1/2 hour flight today, chances are good that I’ll finish it before my head hits the pillow tonight. Since the release date is still almost three months out, I haven’t decided how much to share with you now and how much to save for a few months, but I’m sure I’ll be talking about it some this week as well.
Before you head off to enjoy a great Sunday, don’t forget to enter my Captain Freedom giveaway, and weigh in with your suggestions for a chick flicky book that will get reluctant readers roped in for Mrs. E’s senior summer reading list.
I’m off to enjoy a yummy breakfast before my long day of travel begins. What are you doing today?

Have a safe trip!
You certainly picked a great weekend to visit Kansas City — you could not have asked for better spring weather.
Very jealous about your reading a copy of The Angel’s Game! Can’t wait to read it myself.
I’m glad you had some quality time with the fam! I enjoyed the Little Red Book and look forward to the women’s discussions on your blog!
Safe journey. Today we had to come back to town from the cabin – boo – and now we’re at the office. He’s doing a little invoicing and I’m catching up reading blogs. Tonight a chimenea fire, a glass of wine and finish The Middle Place.
Have a good trip back. At least you have a great book to read on the flight.
I am running my son to final callbacks for the show he is in and then more reading and catching-up. I also have to write a paper for my photography class. A PAPER!! I’ve let it to the last minute but I’m not sweating it too much. I usually work well under pressure.
I definitely want to read The Angels Game – hope you are enjoying it!
