Quote a Day, day 5
2009 at 1pm Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
The Hobbit is the first “grown up” book I remember reading. My dad read it to me bit by bit as a bedtime story when I was little, and I read it on my own for the first time in 6th grade. Several re-readings later, I still love it. Here’s one of my favorite quotes:
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
And, since I have another favorite that I couldn’t bear to leave out:
Not all those who wander are lost.

I’ve never read The Hobbit, but based on these quotes it sounds like one I would enjoy.
I love that quote!
This is one of my very favorite books. Wonderful quotes.
How neat that your dad read you that book, AND that you re-read it. I haven’t read it in many years, and forgot a lot of it except how much I liked it. Watership Down too – I just remember crying for about six hours at the end – not sure if that was because it was over or because something sad happened, but it’s another one I’d love to make time to reread!
“Is it nice my precioussss? Is it juicy? Is it scrumptuously crunchable?”
I love that book!
