The Sunday Salon 3.8.09
2009 at 10am Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
Well, despite the fact that we started the week with 7 inches of snow and record low temperatures, spring seems to have come to Richmond—at least for the weekend—and I’ve fallen prey to the requisite bout of serious spring fever. The gorgeous warm weather makes me want to lie out in the grass in the backyard, soak up some rays, and do absolutely nothing. That, combined with the fact that the stupid “spring forward” thing robbed me of an hour of sleep and is making it seem like the day is flying by (how on earth can it already be noon?), will probably make me less than productive today. But that’s OK. That’s what Sundays are for.
It’s been a pretty mellow week here at the blog. American Rust was the perfect book companion for my snow day, and it is the only book I reviewed this week. I’d been planning to have Christopher Meeks’s new novel The Brightest Moon of the Century read and reviewed by now as well….but, well, spring fever being what it is, I’m only about halfway through. And that’s not to say it isn’t good. In fact, it’s really good. I’ve just been too lazy and blissed out to concentrate, but I’m hoping to get some good time with it today.
From cold and snowy to warm and sunny, it’s been a pretty good week. How can you not love a week that begins with a snow day, though? I mean, really. I kicked off the weekend with a shopping trip with one of my girlfriends yesterday morning and found some great new stuff for spring, then hubby and I spent the evening on a double date seeing Gran Torino and having dinner at a great local restaurant with a few friends. The movie was fantastic, the food was yummy, and the conversation was fun. All in all, a wonderful evening.
I’m going to keep this short so I can get back to the very serious business of reading/napping/sunbathing and looking forward to the L Word series finale this evening. I’ll be sad to see it go, but I’m dying to know who killed Jenny.
Don’t forget to enter my book & t-shirt giveaway, and have a fabulicious Sunday.

I just finished Meeks book on Friday, Rebecca – it is very typical of his usual writing style and I really enjoyed it! I’ve got American Rust on my TBR pile…I keep reading good things about it, so maybe I’ll pick it up this month.
Have a great day – we’re getting some beautiful weather here too!
Happy Sunday! It does seem like half the day is over already. Have you heard about the book distributor who shut its doors and is holding on to new book releases? I wondered what your take was on it, since you work in a bookstore. My TSS post is
here
Snow seems odd in March. It has felt like a cold winter here. I wonder if it will be a cool summer. That would be nice!
It’s beautiful here too and it is making me want to go shopping for more lawn furniture. Like the adirondack lounge chair that is calling my name. I have adirondack chairs but not a lounge chair. I also want a reading gazebo. I have a lovely shady spot in the side yard and I dream of one day reading under it.
We got 6 and a half inches of snow last Sunday and today, the trees are in bloom. Crazy!
Too bad no one found out who killed Jenny!!!!
FRUSTRATING!
I’m about to read American Rust and the Brightest Moon myself so I’m glad to hear they’re good. It’s so much easier to write a review when they are an enjoyable read. We have unseasonably mild weather here in Canada suddenly. If it doesn’t stay it will break my heart because we’ve had 3 feet of the white stuff piled up for some time before it melted. Have a good week.
