February Reading Wrap-Up
2009 at 12pm Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
Whew! February was a short month, and it definitely felt that way to me. Every Friday, I couldn’t believe that another week had flown by, and now here I am again with another month-in-reading post. With almost 7 inches of snow on the ground today, I’m quite happy to be enjoying a snow day (couldn’t get out of the driveway this morning, so I didn’t have much choice) and some extra reading time.
I didn’t get quite as much reading done as I’d hoped to in February, but I did make some good progress toward my goal for the Chunkster Challenge with three long reads (Cutting for Stone, The Help, and Callisto), and after last month’s generally “meh” selections, most of my seven February reads were pretty great.
Here’s what I read in February:
Since most of these were really quite enjoyable, rather than picking favorites, I’ll do the anti-recommendation and say that if you were going to skip one of these, I’d suggest Voluntary Madness. Great concept, but it didn’t quite deliver. Then again, it’s pretty tough to compete with Cutting for Stone, The Help, and Oscar Wao.
Now that some of the chunksters are out of the way, and since I have a long-weekend trip out of town later this month, I’m hoping to get back to my usual rate of 8-10 books per month.
All in all, February was pretty good for reading. What was the best book you read?

I cannot wait to read The Help (have at home from Library) and Cutting for Stone (waiting for this one). Lucky you to have read such great books.
When John and I were at a bookstore yesterday, I realized that I look at our measly selection of books and jump at the covers I recognize from your blog. My husband is now well-accustomed to my exclamations of “the book lady read that one! I think she only have it a rating of 3 out of 5 though. Bummer…”
I have, however, picked up several books that you gave good reviews to and plan to read them as soon as I finish this seemingly-endless master’s degree. June can’t come quickly enough!
Enjoy your snow day.
I have an award for you on my blog.

It’s 75 degrees here in Colorado Springs. This was the warmest Colorado winter in eons!
I still want to know your favorite…
I love Cutting Stone, too. It was a great story with unforgettable characters.
I just read a review this past week for I’m Sorry You Feel That Way and thought it sounded pretty good. The best book I read this past month was a historical romance.
I surprised myself by finishing 12 books in February. Most of them were short, though. I’d have to choose Company of Liars as my favorite for the month. And you’re well aware of my least favorite!
Cutting for Stone is such a chunkster, but I manage to finish in a week and enjoy it a lot.
At least for a slow month numbers-wise you chose what sound like great books. I can’t wait to get my hands on The Help.
