tssbadge1 Well, after a week of bachelorette-ing it, I picked hubby up at the airport around 10:30 last night, just in time to have him join me for our ritual weekend laziness. We had a late night snack on my yummy homemade lasagna and exchanged Valentine’s Day cards so we could see who would win the annual tacky card contest. Mine was a good contender, bright red with a gold foiled square and tons of cheesy poetry, but his definitely took the cake. It’s about 18 x 12, bright pink, with mushy poetry all over the front for his “darling wife” or something like that. It’s so big that it didn’t come in an envelope; it came in a box!  If I get a chance to take some pictures of the cards later, I’ll share them here because I’m telling you, I’ve never seen such a humongous, tacky card. When I got done cracking up, I promptly declared him the winner and awarded him the 3 pounds of Jelly Belly jelly beans I bought to surprise him. Yep, 3 pounds. That’s a lot of jelly beans, folks.

We usually sleep in on Sundays, but we got up around 8:30 this morning and headed out to our favorite brunch spot for a belated Valentine’s date. It was delicious, and now we’re back at home (and back in our sweatpants) for a day of catching up on all the shows that piled up in the TiVo this week. I (somehow) successfully managed to avoid any LOST spoilers, and I can’t wait to see what happened. All of the TV watching will cut into my Sunday reading time, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make today….even though I really do need to read something to make sure my brain doesn’t turn to total mush, since I did watch the entire first season of Gossip Girl on DVD this week.

Just two book reviews this week, but one of them was a chunkster. I loved The Help by Kathryn Stockett, and judging by other reviews around the blogosphere, it seems that I’m far from alone in that. Voluntary Madness by Norah Vincent was okay but not nearly as good as I’d hoped.  Right now, I’m reading an ARC of Callisto by Torsten Krol, and it is weird and entertaining.

Other highlights of the week:

Now I’m off to catch up on the Google Reader and enjoy my Sunday morning Pandora station. What are you up to? Did you have a good Valentine’s Day?
