January Reading Wrap-Up
2009 at 11am Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
Well, I was hoping to get the year kicked off with a slightly more productive reading month, but evenings and weekends have been busier than usual, and that really cuts into my reading time. I’ve read and reviewed 7 books this month, and I was hoping to have Cutting for Stone finished by now, but seeing as how January ends tomorrow, I think it’s fair to say that that’s not going to happen. The end of this month has really snuck up on me, and I’m looking forward to a weekend heavy on the reading and light on pretty much everything else.
So, here’s what I read this month.
It’s pretty easy to pick favorites this month. For fiction, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet is the clear winner, and for nonfiction, I have to go with Reading the OED. A few of the others were pretty good, but I wouldn’t exactly call this a great reading month. Definitely not the best I’ve had.
How was your reading this month? Any new favorites?

Rebecca,
I just gave you an award. Come by my blog to pick it up!
I was fast out of the gate and read some good ones. I thought Elizabeth McCracken’s memoir was lovely. And finally got around to reading When Will There Be Good News by Kate Atkinson which I also liked a lot. But I didn’t read anything super “new”.
Considering I had pretty much the whole month off, I should have been more productive in my reading too. I did finish 13 books though and maybe I’ll finish my 14th tomorrow.
I read some decent books this month, but I also read some pretty atrocious books (I actually abandoned two books, and normally I really try to stick with books). No new favorites, but this has been one of my most fecund reading month possibly ever, as I completed 10 books!
I re-read some old favourites by Anthony Trollope this month and found Sexing the Cherry by Jeanette Winterson surprisingly enjoyable.
Sorry you reading hasn’t been as good!
I completely forgot about the need to write a January wrapup post.
Thanks for the reminder.
I can’t wait to read Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. At this point I’m hoping someone will give their copy away and I’ll get lucky. Just to be safe though I will add it to my wishlist.
Oh my, I only read four books this month! Off to a slow start… My fave was The Little Giant of Aberdeen County. I think I’ll have to add Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet to my wish list!
I just finished The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter & Sweet, after longing for it for a year and half! I LOVED it, as much as you did.
Favourites this month were Norwegian Wood and Graceling both of which I loved and couldn’t out down!
