teasertuesdays22Hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading, TEASER TUESDAYS asks you to:

  • Grab your current read.
  • Let the book fall open to a random page.
  • Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
  • You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
  • Please avoid spoilers!
  • I’m currently almost halfway through Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese, which is set for release next Tuesday, February 3rd.  It’s good. Really good. So good, in fact, that I’ve contemplated calling in sick so I can stay home and read it because despite popular thought, working in a bookstore does not mean you get to sit around and read all day. Oh, would that it did, though.

I’m going to stretch the rules a little and include several sentences that I really enjoyed.

    From page 46:

I say ‘alien,’ Ghosh, because you are so unaware of yourself, of your looks. There’s a seduction in that for others. Alien becomes beauty. I’m saying this to you because you’re not here. To be around someone whose self-confidence is more than what our first glance led us to expect is seductive.

Though I’m far from finished with this amazing novel, I can tell it’s going to be one of my favorites of 2009. If you’re looking for a great, expansive book to curl up with during the wintry weather, call your local bookstore and pre-order this one right now, or plan to pick it up next Tuesday.

What are you reading this week?
