This morning finds me recovering from a wine and fondue party with great friends last night. We ate way too much (who can say no to hazelnut chocolate fondue?) and had a fantastic time, and I’d love to spend the rest of today curled up in my jammies alternately reading and napping. But the hubs and I are leaving in a bit to babysit our nieces and nephew, and that will be fun, too. An entirely different, much more active kind of fun, but definitely a good time.
I started the week with a review of Corner Shop by Roopa Farooki. Though I also read Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet this week, I haven’t gotten around to writing the review, so you can look for it later today or sometime tomorrow. I’m currently reading Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese, and it is pretty marvelous. It’s a chunkster (534 pages, not including author notes, bibliography, etc.), and I’d love to have some time with it this afternoon and evening.
A few fun audience-participation posts this week: I discussed six-word memoirs for Teaser Tuesdays (you know you want to try writing your own!) and invited you to share your awkward/embarrassing adolescent stories on Friday.
Other highlights of the week include Adventures in Bookselling v. 12 and a contemplation of what inspires me to read for BTT. I also wrapped up the Take Me to Your Reader t-shirt giveaway—congrats again to Chris!
And, oh yes, it was a good week in TV. I was so happy to rejoin my friends from Big Love and The L Word last Sunday night, and this week’s premiere of LOST rocked my socks off. (Wow, haven’t used that phrase since 6th grade…) I also watched the pilot of The United States of Tara, and while I love Toni Collette and John Corbett, I’ll have to give this one another couple episodes before I make any decisions. Click here to watch the full episode online for free, and come back to let me know what you think.
Tonight, I’ll have to tear myself away from Cutting for Stone for at least a little while because the oldest Duggar kid from TLC’s 17 Kids and Counting is getting married! Now, I haven’t really followed the show because, to be honest, these people freak me out quite a bit, but the commercial advertising the wedding episode (which includes a scene where the son and his fiancee sit in their car listening to an audio-book sermon about what to expect on their wedding night) looks so deliciously awkward that I can’t resist. Plus, my pal Elizabeth loves them, and I trust her TV opinions…well, except for the whole Lifetime movies thing. (Sorry, Em!)
And now your moment of zen for this Sunday (I was going to embed it, but that’s not allowed…harumph) I’ve been listening to this song on heavy rotation because it’s just so freaking catchy and hilarious. Come on, “You’re born of a jackal….you’re beautiful!” Who doesn’t love that? It’s a weird song, but I keep finding myself singing it. I downloaded the whole album and have been listening to it during my workouts (only 2 this week, by the way), and it’s pretty fun, if you’re into this sort of thing.
What are you doing today?

My week of utter chaos begins today. I posted about it here:

Hazelnut chocolate fondue sounds divine!
That sounds like a nice party. I’m so glad to hear Cutting for Stone is good. I hope you get some time with it soon.
I’m going to have to watch the United States of Tara later. I love Toni Collette. The Hazelnut chocolate fondue sounds interesting – it would take me a while to recover from that. My post is finally up. I’m playing catch up from this week.
Have a good weekend.
Have to say I love the song. “You suck so passionately.” Brilliant!
Sounds like you’ve had a busy, but fun weekend. I am eager to read your thoughts on Cutting For Stone which I also received. I’m trying not to look at it because there are other books I HAVE TO READ before I can read that one…and I am afraid I am going to end up just being terribly irresponsible and forgetting my “plan” just dive headfirst into that book *laughs*
No Lifetime movies? You obviously have not seen “A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story” starring the incomparable Meredith Baxter Burney.
