Teaser Tuesdays: Not Quite What I Was Planning

teasertuesdays22Teaser Tuesdays are hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading Here’s how it works:

TEASER TUESDAYS asks you to:

  • Grab your current read.
  • Let the book fall open to a random page.
  • Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
  • You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
  • Please avoid spoilers!
  • Though I’m currently reading Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford and am loving every minute of it, I want to share a teaser from another fun book I’ve been picking up a lot lately.

Inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s famous six-word memoir “For Sale: baby shoes, never worn,” Smith Magazine asked readers to submit their own six-word memoirs, and this is the collection that grew out of that project. Inside, we find pieces from famous writers and average joes, and I just think it’s a very cool concept. From pages 86 and 87:

Cursed with cancer. Blessed with friends.

    Crappy parents killed my self-esteem.

Some collect coins. I collect diplomas.

Bipolar at 12. Lithium at 36.

If Eliza Doolittle wore cowboy boots…

You get the picture. Like life, these mini-memoirs range from gleeful to downright depressing, humorous and snarky to mournful and sad, and they are consistently interesting. Every time I flip through this book, I’m amazed at how much can be expressed by six small words.  I’ve been working on a few, so I’ll share my bookish one with you:

    1 house. 2 cars. 1000 books.

Care to take a stab at it? Leave your own six-word memoir here, and stop by Should Be Reading for links to more Teaser Tuesday posts.
