Linkage for word nerds!
2009 at 9am Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
So, I’m currently reading Reading the OED, which is great, in case you were wondering. I’m learning lots of fun words and am really enjoying Ammon Shea’s story and his sense of humor. I was snooping around on his website yesterday when I found a link to Podictionary, a site that does a short daily podcast on the etymology of a common word.
Yesterday, I learned all about the word conniption (which I actually use frequently…but hey, I live in the south), and today I learned a term I’d never heard of before. I *love* this website and think many of you would enjoy it as well, especially if you enjoyed my recent Phraseology fest. It’s kind of like that, but with more depth.
You can subscribe to listen to the daily podcasts or read the entries in your feed reader, so it’s quite convenient. Check it out!

I knew there was a difference between those two words, but I had no way of expressing that difference..now I do. Thanks for posting the link.
I love the etymology aspect of words, particularly from where words originate.
Thanks for the link. I discovered the difference when researching for the story I’m writing. Had to make sure used the right terminology so nobody would have a conniption fit.
Yes,I’m from the south and use that word. Amazing how people look at you when you tell them not to have a conniption.

I always get these two terms confused. Thanks for pointing out the site- I’m certain I’ll be visiting it again! I like wordy stuff.
Thanks for the link. I use conniption, probably because my mother always did. I love the etymology of words.
My google reader is out of control! Thanks…I think.
That book and that website look amazing! I love learning new words and learning the different meanings. My whole family uses either the phrase ‘conniption fit’ or ‘hissy fit’ – not from the south though
