Come out and play!
2009 at 9pm Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky
Chris at Book-A-Rama pointed out that Melissa at Book Nut pointed out that this is National Delurking Week.
So, if you’ve been hanging out here for a while (or for a few hours, whatever), why don’t you come on out and play? I’m glad you’re here, and I’d love to hear from you.
In the spirit of breaking the ice, I’ll borrow Chris and Melissa’s idea and simply ask you: what are you reading?
Feel free to share anything else you want me to know, too!

Well, for the past 2 months I’ve been trying to finish New Moon by Stephanie Meyer and The Shack by William P Young (by the recommendation of my niece). I have on my stack to start My Life in France-Julia Child and Testimony-Anita Shreve. Just got to find time to finish and start.
I am actually giving oup on a “chunkster” already – not even two weeks into the New Year. My TBR pile is too big and life is too short. So out goes “History of the Arab Peoples” (interesting but very very dense requiring lots of close attention). Since I feel consumed by guilt, I decided to read a book about feeling consumed by guilt, and am therefore currently enjoying “Foreskin’s Lament.”
I’m reading Anne Fadiman’s Ex Libris: Confessions of a Common Reader. Have you read it? I think you’d like it.
I don’t think i am exactly lurking but I don’t comment everytime either. I am reading ‘The last empress’ by Anchee Min and enjoying it too.
I’ve only recently found your blog and am enjoying it, although my comments have been few and far between. At the moment, I’m amidst a re-read of the Barsetshire series of books by Anthony Trollope.
I notice you’re reading Reading the OED, which I’ve been coveting for some time. I’ll be interested to hear about it.
You told me, so it’s only fair that I tell you. I’m currently in the middle of Italo Calvino’s ‘If on a winter’s night a traveller’; next up are ‘The Gargolye’, Geraldine Brooks’s ‘People of the Book’, and Terry Pratchett’s Lords and Ladies. Not sure which one first, though.
(I really can’t remember whether I’ve commented here before or not; maybe I should add something on improving my memory to the TBR!)
I think I’ve commented a couple of times but in the spirit of delurking, hello!
I’m reading A Mercy by Toni Morrison at the moment.
I’m almost through with American Savior by Roland Merullo.
Hello! Not a lurker but I wanted to say hi.
I’m reading Anne’s House of Dreams and The Age of Innocence.
I’m reading Undercover by Beth Kephart. Its really good so far! Hi!!
I’m reading Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes (sp?) and a biography of Dali called, fittingly, The Persistence of Memory.
I am reading Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis, Vol 1 of Plutarch’s Lives, and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Sometimes I worry I’m the opposite of a lurker — I comment too much. But I’m a loud person by nature!
I just finished An Abundance of Katherines by John Green last night; it was really good! And I started Whose Wedding Is It Anyway? by Melissa Senate right after, since I’ve begun all the wedding party planning
Thanks again for your advice!
Hi! I am a lurker…I found your blog a couple of weeks ago and love it! The adventures in bookselling crack me up! I’m thinking of starting my own book blog since I’m doing a few reading challenges with The Nest Book Club (thenest.com).
Anyway, I just finished reading 2666 by Roberto BolaƱo (I really enjoyed it and am glad I picked it up, even though the length is a little intimidating). And now I’m reading the 4th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. Then I have The Golden Compass lying in wait.
I’ll play!
I’m reading Twilight and loving it. I’m also reading Loving Frank. I’m a bit distracted with work and Facebook right now, but we won’t go there.
Hello from the Netherlands, where I am currently reading the extremely enjoyable The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff and have just started in The Suspicions of Mr Whicher by Kate Summerscale. I also regularly dip into 52 Ways of Looking at a Poem (Ruth Padel) and How To read a Painting (Patrick de Rynck), planning to finish both before the end of the year.
Anna
PS Love your blog.
Reading The School of Essential Ingredients right now…it’s promising!
I don’t consider myself a lurker, but I’ll bite anyway. I’m reading David Copperfield, and Orange Mint and Honey.
Do I lurk here? I can’t remember if I’ve commented before or not. Well, I love the blog, especially the adventures in book selling. I’ve never worked in a bookstore, but working retail is always fun. =)
I’m reading Le Corbusier: A Life by Nocholas Fox Weber and the 5th Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic omnibus. A little high brow, a little not so much.
Actually, I just found your blog tonight, but in the interests of delurking, (which I am guilty of on several sites) I will share that I am currently reading Bill the Conqueror, by P.G. Wodehouse.
Sadly, I confess I am an addict, I’ve been hooked since the age of 17.
I am a Wodehousean impatiently waiting for 5 more titles to arrive from Amazon!!
