The Sunday Salon

tssbadge1 This week turned out to be busier than I anticipated! I planned to write a book review on Friday, but I had the day off and spent it finishing up my shopping, baking cupcakes, and running errands with hubs. We rented Wall-E, which I highly recommend if you haven’t seen it, and had a quite night at home. I worked all day yesterday and was out on the floor helping control traffic with crazed shoppers. Nobody asked me anything too crazy, though I did have to explain to an elderly man who called to find out if we had “a machine that could project a page from a book onto the wall” what an overhead projector is, how it works (impressive, right?!), and where he could find one (NOT at the bookstore, but thanks for playing). Some friends had a holiday open house yesterday, so after a brief stop at home, we headed over there for the rest of the night.

This morning’s entry will be quick because we’re gearing up to drive out to the country to a Christmas tree farm we’ve only heard of from friends and only vaguely know how to find to chop down our tree. It’s something I haven’t done in several years and that he’s never done, so I figure it’s an appropriate way to mark the first Christmas we get to celebrate in our house together. Disaster could ensue, so stay tuned.

This week, I wrapped up the Phraseology fest, discussed my reading and reviewing habits, finally participated in a few memes I was tagged for, and contemplated my reading time.

I also reviewed Revolutionary Road and The Tales of Beedle the Bard. I’m hoping to post another review this afternoon, but we’ll see how the tree chopping and trimming go.

I’m about halfway through Elizabeth Samet’s Soldier’s Heart, and so far, it’s really fantastic. She explores the way in which teaching and learning literature affect West Point students and the ways they view and experience their military work, with a healthy dose of literary analysis thrown in. Very good!

Hope you all have a great Sunday. Don’t forget to way in on the all-important holiday question: The Elf on the Shelf: Cool or Creepy?
