The Sunday Salon

It’s a perfect Sunday morning here—I slept in, made myself a peppermint mocha (my year-round favorite) on the fancy espresso machine hubby and I received as a wedding present (there’s definitely something to be said for registering for extravagant items you’d never buy for yourself), watched a little Discovery Channel, finished the book I was reading (Greasy Rider—review coming later today), and now I’m sitting in the office, enjoying the sunlight streaming through the window, and enjoying a little Bon Jovi.  Does it get any better than this?

This was a very busy week at The Book Lady’s Blog. I celebrated Banned Books Week with daily features of banned and challenged books (click here to see those posts), which was a lot of fun and a great reminder of why the freedom to read is so important.

I also announced a giveaway of Matrimony by Joshua Henkin (click here to enter—contest closes tomorrow evening), meditated on deodorant and marketing, featured my September Reading Wrap-Up, and wrote an ode to the teachers who made me passionate about books.

In my non-blogging, Book Lady life, I kicked off a month jam-packed with special events and fundraisers, and this week, I’ll be attending a David Sedaris talk, hosting 4 in-store events, and marveling at how quickly we’re approaching Christmas.  On a more personal note, Bob and I participated in another Ravenchase adventure yesterday, then snuggled up to watch Young @ Heart, a beautiful documentary about a group of senior citizens who form a chorus and travel the world performing their unique renditions of popular music.  It made me laugh, and it really made me cry, and I found it wholly inspirational.  Check out this performance, which was intended to be a duet, and is dedicated to the 2 members of the chorus who passed away during the week preceding the performance, and just tell me it doesn’t make you want to grow into a very cool older person.

It’s going to be a little crazy around here for a while, but I have today to stay in my jammies (which I intend to do all day, if it’s at all possible), curl up on the couch, and start a new book. At the request of Jessica from WaterBrook Press, I’ll be departing from my usual genres and trying out some light religious fiction with Susan Meissner’s recently published novel The Shape of Mercy.

What are you doing this Sunday?
