I thought you might like to know, I'm citing this review for a high-school project and it actually passed the website evaluation gauntlet despite being a blog! Many thanks to you and all the other bloggers who reference their sources.

For some reason your RSS feed isn't updating regularly in my bloglines account. I just got 6 posts from you all at once. Which is sort of a nice bonus, but I'm a little behind!

I like this book--or one by the same author--I can never remember which is which, there are 3 aimed at different age groups. I'd look it up, but I'm supposed to be cleaning my basement. The middle one is the one we liked (What's the Big Secret is another good one, different author)--books are great conversation-starters for us.

I don't think there is anything wrong with informing kids age 10 and up about the reality of sex and sexuality, especially in a world where the information is going to be forced on them sooner or later. I personally would rather be the first to talk to my kids about sex and sexuality, as well as be the one they turn to for information, rather than go seek them elsewhere.

Denying that children & pre-teens are curious about sex and sexuality is ridiculous - is everyone in denial about their own questions during that period in their lives? - and creating an aura of taboo about the topic ensures that our kids are only going to search for answers in other, secretive and less informed quarters.

Sorry, I get a little passionate about this subject! Great review by the way :)

I think everyone makes better decisions when they have more knowledge, instead of ignorance (even if that's supposed to protect them). You have to help kids understand the issues and consequences, which helps them make the best choices. My daughter is only four, but already I am trying to answer all her questions as honestly as I can, even though that is difficult sometimes. If she wants to know something, I'd like to be the first one to explain it to her. This book looks like a good one, and I think I'll put it on my list to have on hand when she's ready to process that kind of info (or comes up with those kinds of questions).
