BBAW: Blogger Shout-Outs

2008 at 11am     Posted by Rebecca Joines Schinsky

Just in case you have somehow managed to not hear about Book Blogger Appreciation Week, it starts today, and it’s being hosted by My Friend Amy.  There will be daily tasks and activities for the participating bloggers to help us celebrate each other and the books and blogs we love, and today’s assignment is to recognize bloggers that didn’t make it to the finals for the first official BBAW Awards. Click on the badge to the left to learn more about today’s BBAW celebration.

Many of the blogs I love and read regularly were nominated, and I dutifully voted for them (and hoped that they voted for me), so I’m going to go in a slightly different direction and recognize a few authors whose blogs I’ve been enjoying lately.

You all have heard me rave about Elizabeth Emerson Hancock, who wrote one of my favorite memoirs of the year, Trespassers Will Be Baptized.  And if you’ve been hanging out at The Book Lady’s Blog over the last few weeks, then you know that she also raved about me.  It’s quite the mutual admiration society we have going on.  Anyway, Emy’s blog is funny and insightful, and I love that she writes about writing, and her life, and pretty much anything that strikes her fancy. She always makes me smile, and I think even readers who haven’t read her book would enjoy the blog.  Check it out!

One of my favorite books of the year was Brunonia Barry’s The Lace Reader, and I was thrilled to discover her blog, The Bru-Ha-Ha. Ms. Barry tells us about her adventures as a first-time author, and I just think it’s nice to be able to keep up with her and see that her wonderful book is getting great exposure.  Posts are somewhat erratic but always a delight.

Finally, I’ve loved John Elder Robison’s blog since last fall, when I read his memoir Look Me in the Eye. He writes about life as an Aspergian, shares his experiences as a now well-recognized author, and opens the door for us to think about Asperger’s and the autism spectrum in a new way, and I happen to think he’s a much better writer than his uberfamous brother, Augusten Burroughs.
